Variety Show & Themed Burlesque Since 2013.

Plumb Askew Revue was born in March 2013.  Burlesque stages in the Dallas area were abundant at the time, however, none of them really focused on pop culture, neo, and nerdy themes.  We discovered a real need for performers of those genres to have a place to showcase their craft.  We began our shows in a small community theater in Plano.  Once we began overselling shows at that venue and found a need for more space, we moved to the Sons of Hermann Hall in Deep Ellum.  We have been performing there since 2015.

We continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for performers of all ages, sizes, orientations, genders, and skill levels.  We also offer learning opportunities through our quarterly intensive courses for various skill levels through Burlesque Revealed - Academy of Tease.

How we got our name…

I was looking for words that had a meaning related to being bold or strong, self confident, and unique or weird.  I found the word "Aplomb" which is defined as self-confidence or assurance, especially when in a demanding situation.  I had heard that word used a lot in my readings about classic burlesque legends.  Askew is a word I had become very familiar with as I am a fan of the director Kevin Smith and his company is called View Askew Productions.  So, since askew has a meaning of not straight or unlevel or "just a little off", I thought that would be a funny way of showing our weird and nerdy side.   I'm also a big fan of rhymes so that is where revue comes in.  Revue is defined as light theatrical entertainment consisting of a series of short sketches, songs and dances, typically dealing satirically with topical issues.  That is pretty much the definition of a burlesque show so it just made sense.  That is how we became "A Plumb Askew Revue."
